Welcome, Apperson Students!

I’m excited to be partnering with your school to bring you a fun science program! You’ll see explosions and the force of expanding gases. You’ll learn about a few scientific principles, and a bunch of other things. We’ll be doing science experiments together, and I will also have some cool demonstrations to show you!

A 15-minute preshow will begin at 6:15 for any early arriving students. The show will end at 7:30.

Science Experiments:

Your PTA has provided kits for you to to science experiments as a group during the show. Our science activities are all safe, but a workspace like a kitchen table, counter, or hard floor is ideal for ease of clean up. It is possible some water may get away from you when we make film canister rockets. Don’t set up for this one on Great Aunt Mildred’s antique dining room table! Or too close to your computer, either.

Materials List:

Your kits will include the following materials:

  • Alka Seltzer tablets
  • Film canister
  • Balloon
  • Bendable straw
  • Ping pong ball
  • Balloons
  • Water bottle
  • Vinegar
  • Baking soda

Optional/bonus supplies:

  • Hair dryer, plugged in and ready to go! (this is just a bonus if you want to try one experiment a different way)
  • Measuring cup and spoon (they make things easier)
  • Funnel (or a sheet of paper and tape to make one!)
  • trash bag or similar to lay out for a workspace

If you don’t have any of the optional things, don’t worry! You will be just fine with the kit provided. These items just make things a little easier. Parents, younger children in particular may enjoy a bit of help during the show.
