Texas Commission of the Arts Funding

Overview

The Yuck Show is included in the Texas Commission on the Arts touring roster, which provides grant funding to cover up to 50% of the total contracted fee.  Grant awards are 50% for the first $2500 and then are reduced on a sliding scale when the fee is higher.

This grant is not competitive or needs-based. Non-profit or government entities presenting public programs or school assembly programs are eligible, and all that have applied so far have received funding.

“Artists are selected for the touring roster by a panel of statewide experts and are considered the best in their field.”

-Texas Commission of the Arts

Eligible program types that are commonly funded include:

  • Theater or PAC shows presented by non-profit groups
  • Festival and state fair performances
  • School assembly programs
  • Evening PTA/PTO shows when your local community is invited
  • Library shows

Some info about how the grant works can be found here or in the video overview directly below.

Introduction to the TCA Texas Touring Roster and Performance Support grant program.

How to Apply

To apply for the grant, you will first need to register for an account here:

https://www.arts.texas.gov/grants/sign-up/

You can create an account for your organization in advance, but we need to have a scheduled, contracted date before you are able to apply for funding. I will send you a contact to sign and return to confirm our date, and it will also be submitted with your grant application.

When you receive your contract, please confirm that the your entity’s name on the contract is exactly the same it appears on your TCA account.

The TCA will need to validate your 501(c)3 status, and my understanding is that this can take up to a week, so starting well ahead of the application deadline is useful.

Quarterly deadline:For performances occurring:
August 1September 1-December 14
November 1December 15-March 14
February 1March 15-June 14
May 1June 15-August 31

You can apply for funding as early as you wish, but the application will be processed at your deadline.

The application asks for a federal SAM-UEI number.  Please include this if you have one, but If your organization does not, it is not required for this specific grant program.

Then you will need to apply for the Arts Respond Performance Support grant.

You should receive notice of the grant result approximately two weeks after your application deadline.

This video provides instructions and explanations for each step should you have any difficulty navigating the grant portal:

After the Program

The TCA requires grant recipients to return a grant report form sent with all grant payments and financial documentation by the deadline given on the online grant report form. They also asks grant recipients to contact their state representatives to share news about their grant award and thank them for making these funds available. More information about those expectations can be found here.

Mentioning the TCA’s support of your event in any promotional materials is encouraged. You can use their logo files for print or online acknowledgments or use “funded in part by the Texas Commission on the Arts” in your print/web materials . Social media posts can be tagged with @TXCommArts.

Also be sure to look through the other 180-ish acts on the Texas Touring Roster. Some may suit other programming needs you have, and all can be funded through Performance Support grants, up to a $12,000 maximum per presenting group per year.

And next year, when your students love the Yuck Show and ask to have it back again, you will already be registered and will be just a few clicks away from receiving financial support again!  😃
